Webpage: Vampyr Game
Plot: London, 1918. You are newly-turned Vampyr Dr. Jonathan Reid. As a doctor, you must find a cure to save the city’s flu-ravaged citizens. As a Vampire, you are cursed to feed on those you vowed to heal. Will you embrace the monster within? Survive and fight against Vampire hunters, undead Skal, and other monstrosities.
Use your unholy powers to manipulate and delve into the lives of those around you to decide who will be your next victim. Struggle to live with your decisions…your actions will save or doom London.
Gameplay: Vampyr is an action role-playing game played from a third-person perspective. The player controls the game’s protagonist Jonathan E. Reid, a vampire doctor whose thirst for blood compels him to kill innocent people. To do this successfully, he must gather information about his targets—study and change their habits, collect clues and maintain certain relationships by communicating with the inhabitants of London, which serves as a fictionalized semi-open world built around hubs of neighborhoods tethered to other interlinking areas. It is possible to finish the game without taking a life, which pest preserves the character’s cover as a doctor, but leaves him nearly incapable of leveling up. Killing no one unlocks one of four different endings.
Reid can use his vampire powers in combat and wield improvised melee weapons, such as a saw, as well as ranged weapons. He will fight against other vampires like him—aristocrats who go by the name of Ekon, sewer-dwelling vampires known as Skals: the Vulkod—a stronger breed of vampire resembling werewolves; Nemrod—vampires who hunt their own kind, and the Guard of Priwen—a secret society of vampire slayers.
Reasons why I’m dying for it:
- Vampires: I’ll be honest and admit that this was the first thing that caught my attention about this game. Why? Because I’ve been waiting for years for a vampire game to look as interesting and good as this one does– and now that I know that there are going to be more than one type of vampire out there to meet and maybe even fight against, I am even more excited about it. Also, I’m dying to check out these vampire abilities we’ll be able to use to feed and in combat!
- Vampire Hunters: based on the few gameplays I’ve watched, the Guard of Priwen looks like an amazing and annoying group of vampire slayers that will be everywhere you go investigating, trying to kill you or tempting you to fight them. I’m ready.
- Setting: another thing that has me really excited for this game is the setting: London, but not just because it’s London, but because it looks like it’s going to be dark and full of sickness, blood, death and mysterious (and hungry) vampires!
- Story: There’s not much out there about the story that will come to life through this game and the choices you take, but I’m very curious and excited to discover it and learn about the vampires, the vampire hunters, what the Spanish flu is causing around the streets of London, how everything started and so on.
And that’s pretty much it. Anyone else excited for November 2017?
Thanks for passing by & reading! x
